Observations
You hear people talk about telling a story with photography, but what does that mean? Maybe you can tell a story with a thousand words, but not with a single image. You can ask questions or illustrate problems — in short, document people, places, and events — by using composition, lighting, and subject matter to create an image that evokes an emotional response. In essence, you invite the viewer to come up with their own story. A photograph of a child playing in the rain can convey a sense of joy and freedom, while a photograph of a person sitting alone in a dark room can convey a sense of loneliness and isolation.
